Community Steel Buildings
Safe & Modern Meeting Space for the Whole Community
Customized steel buildings bring warmth to your community. Whether your community needs a police or fire station, recreation center, municipal building, school or church, steel buildings can’t be beaten.
From stucco and wood siding to brickwork and slate, fully customized steel structures protect residents and bring pride to your neighborhood. Keep your community safe with fire-resistant steel that stands up to extreme weather conditions and requires little maintenance.
Build in weeks and enjoy a gathering place for years to come with 100% recyclable steel.
All things to all people: .Whether you are considering construction of a new school, community building, fire station, town hall, recreation center, or municipal office, it would behoove you to give serious thought to choosing a Pre-engineered Steel Building (PEB) for your intended purpose. Why? Think about the following attributes that should be true of any new communal building and then we will discuss each of them in a little more detail to help you see why a PEB can be something that benefits everyone. A new public gathering place should:
Be comfortable, inviting: The building should focus your attention on its intended use and not look like an industrial warehouse.
Be safe and secure: Those gathering in the community structure should never feel ill-at-ease because of failing structural systems or inclement weather, even after many years.
Fit any budget. It should be at home in whatever environment it is built in and it should be as humble or lavish as the builder’s budget allows.
Not take forever to build: Anticipation builds excitement, but seemingly never-ending construction will soon burst that bubble.
Be environmentally responsible: Some building methods and materials can deplete the planet’s natural resources. Your building should be part of the solution, not part of the problem.
All this and more: On each of the considerations listed above, the Pre-engineered Steel Building does not just comply, it excels!
Comfort: Your new gathering place should not only look good, it should be the pride of the neighborhood. For many years, steel buildings were only for warehouses and factories. But today’s PEB can be built to be as inviting as your own home. The steel is simply the “bones” of the building, but all the finishes, both inside and out, can be customized to virtually any motif you desire. The exterior can be covered with cedar siding, used brick, even simulated stucco, just like any wood-framed building. The roof can be metal, but it can also be hand-split shake, architectural shingle, or terracotta tile. And the interior can be finished just like the nicest school, church, rec center, or even home you’ve ever been in. And since steel framing components can be insulated so much more efficiently than their wood counterparts, perfect climate control is a breeze.
Security: You will never have to worry about your PEB breaking down or being damaged by natural causes like you would other construction materials. Steel has a very high strength-to-weight ratio and this, combined with heavy-duty component joints and secure anchoring systems, enables the PEB to withstand heat, rain, snow, ice, and hail, and to stand up to even the strongest winds. In addition, they are naturally resistant to mold, mildew, rot, and pest infestation. Unlike wood, they will not warp, split or crack. PEB components almost never need to be patched, repaired, or repainted—virtually eliminating maintenance time and costs. And as steel is fireproof, a PEB is much less expensive to insure, and many manufacturers will warranty their product for as many as 50 years!
Economy: Since they are pre-engineered, PEBs can be designed to fit any budget. Whereas they can be built as simple as a box, they can also have multiple stories, multiple wings, and multiple rooflines. They can employ minimal attachment systems to produce a safe but economical structure in areas with mild weather or they can be beefed up to be able to withstand hurricane winds and massive snow storms.
Speed: Construction of a PEB can be done in record time. All of the components come as a kit, pre-cut, pre-drilled, and pre-welded. Since the site work can be done while the kit is being manufactured, and since 70% of the erection is done on the ground and then hoisted into place, multiple processes can be accomplished at the same time, dramatically cutting down on construction time. For example, a traditional community center could take as long as two years to build whereas a pre-engineered structure can be completed in a few months. The excitement of anticipation is never lost.
Responsibility: Pre-engineered Steel Buildings are currently leading the Green Movement. Steel is the most recycled material on earth. Over half of a PEB’s steel is recycled material, and all of it can be recycled again. With heightened public awareness and enduring catchwords such as “carbon footprint” and “environmental impact,” any responsible owner or builder these days will be very conscious of making his structure as easy on the environment as possible. The PEB fulfills that need on several levels.
For many years, steel was not widely used as a building material because it was difficult to find a builder who knew how to use it. Now steel has become the de facto standard in commercial and industrial building methods, covering over 95% of the market. And the Pre-engineered Steel Building has proven to be the gold standard of all steel building systems. Please read on to as we consider a few more details regarding two of the most popular communal building applications: churches and recreation centers.
